"Lack of information about scan"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Imaging

(as a service user),

I attended Glasgow Royal recently for an MRI scan.  The scan was to take place at the MRI van which I was aware of prior to attending.  I was directed to the van by reception.  I was surprised and a bit uncomfortable when I arrived at the van to find this was not staffed by NHS staff.  The staff were contractors from the company who own the MRI scanning van.  I was also slightly taken aback that the two staff were male.  As I was slightly stressed about the scan anyway, these factors did not particularly help.

Dear Mayys65

Thank you for getting in touch via Care Opinion.

We apologise that you were left feeling uncomfortable and for the lack of prior information regarding the staff and their roles. We understand how these factors, combined with the stress of the scan itself, may have added to your unease. Please be reassured regardless if your appointment is completed on site or in a mobile van, all staff are required to work to the same standards and protocols.

We are pleased to hear that the staff were competent and capable, and we will ensure that your kind words are passed on to them. However, we acknowledge the need to better prepare our patients for what to expect during their appointments, including details about the staff and their roles.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Take Care

Nicole
