I was diagnosed with myeloma a year ago and started induction therapy treatment with combination of different medications that had a big impact on my daily life due to associated immunosuppression, neuropathy and fatigue. Having completed the first line of treatment I then underwent intensive chemotherapy and stem cell transplant, following which I am still recovering. I have recently started the maintenance therapy treatment and thanks to the ongoing support from not only the immediate Haematology department team and the Cancer Centre team at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust but also from the Friends of Cancer Centre I am learning to live with myeloma as best as I possibly can. Their understanding, kindness and practical support in getting me mobilising has been invaluable to my journey of accepting my condition and moving forward with it with a genuine sense of hope.
