I have some good news to share on the therapy dog allocation. We recently interviewed two more dogs and I am happy to report that both were successful and have been allocated to the care streams who have yet to have the opportunity to use this service. Once they have had an induction into the hospital we shall hopefully see them early in the new year.

When we have a more definitive timeframe we will share the information with the wards and be contacting the clinical teams with information about how patients can access this valuable service.

Thank you for your question and I hope this offers you something positive to look forward to.

Dear RHA040193,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the potential benefits of having therapy dogs on Cotswold Ward. It's fantastic to hear how you feel this could positively impact you and others.

At Rampton, we currently have Care Dog Volunteers rather than therapy dogs. Care Dogs are part of a volunteer programme where specially assessed dogs and their owners visit wards to offer comfort, interaction, and support to patients. These visits aim to provide therapeutic benefits, such as reducing stress and promoting social engagement.

As Clare mentioned, I can confirm that two new Care Dog Volunteers have recently been recruited, including one specifically for the Personality Disorder services. They are completing their on boarding process and are expected to start visiting in mid to late January 2025. We are working closely with the Day Unit staff to ensure their visits align with patients' needs and routines.

When the dogs are ready to begin their visits, the Day Unit will share details with the clinical teams and wards, including how patients can take part. I hope this gives you something to look forward to in the new year.

Thank you again for your suggestion and for sharing how important this service could be for you.
