"Impossible to get a doctors appointment"

About: Island Health

Getting a doctors appointment at this surgery is near impossible! They will only book appointments for the same day. It's like playing roulette each time you need to see a doctor. They force you to only make an appointment at 8am each day so at 8am everyone who needs an appointment sits waiting for the time to tick over from 07:59:59 to 08:00:00 and everyone calls at once. If you ring at 08:00:01 you will be 20th in the queue if you are lucky and be on hold for at least an hour. This really isn't acceptable. Their online service is the same.

Last week I tried to get an appointment for a non-urgent issue. I went to the surgery and was told by the receptionist to call 111. What is the point of having a local GP surgery when you can't get an appointment? 111 referred me to Royal London. I shouldn't have to go to the hospital for a non-urgent doctors appointment.

If you think this applies to just their phone service, you are wrong. The internet is up 24 hours a day but Island Health's online service is lucky to operate for even 5 minutes a day.

It's very clear that Island Health is oversubscribed but if that is the case *why* are they still accepting new patients??

I still haven't had anyone look at my non-urgent issue. I guess I will end up having to go private again which of course will just hide the issues that this practice has.

If you think I am alone with this issue, I am not. Here is the local community feedback

Dear Patient

Island Health Primary Care LTD is always open to feedback, however, it is impossible to investigate or verify these claims as they were posted anonymously. If you would like to raise a concern about your care, then please contact the practice via email islandhealth.admin@nhs.net. As otherwise we are unable to respond or assist. If you don’t feel able to do this or feel that the doctor patient relationship has broken down, you are entitled to register with a different local practice without needing to give a reason to us or your new practice.

Kind Regards
