"Camhs inpatient admissions - Aquarius ward"

About: Springfield University Hospital (London)

The Building is unsuitable for young people, it looks forbidding & the environment can go from being very caring to highly restrictive - with no exercise permitted. It is not appropriate for patients to be treated as though they can't be trusted - with permission needed to enter different rooms. There is a long wait sometimes for medication due to the shortage of on call psychiatrists/the large number of patents in their care. Having said that, the medical staff were excellent, and most of the nursing staff were superb.

Dear Anonymous

Thank you for your posting. I am sorry I have not responded to sooner, I have only just become a responder on the site.

I am the Patient Experience Manager and I am very grateful for you taking the time to feedback your experience. I was pleased to read that you found the medical staff “excellent” and nursing staff “superb”. I shall feed this back to the team.

We have identified the development of a ‘campus’ for inpatient children’s mental health services based at Springfield Hospital that will consolidate resources for service provision, training and research. This campus will enable the Trust to provide excellent, flexible and cost-effective services in environments specifically designed for children, young people and their families. The three inpatient children’s wards on the Trust site are included, these are:

• Aquarius Ward which provides for the Trust local boroughs, as well as provision for NHS England.

• Wisteria Ward which provides a national service for adolescents with Eating Disorders;

• Corner House Ward (currently located temporarily on Ellis Ward) which is the only NHS residential unit in the UK for Deaf Children and Adolescents with mental health problems.

Work has already started and is due to conclude October/November 2014. Corner House works are complete and they are due to move in 4th week in March 2014.

.

Many thanks

Victoria

Thank you very much for your feedback and I am sorry for the lengthy delay in responding to you. We now have a new Patient Experience Team developing feedback mechanisms and we will be responding to all reviews in a timely manner as we want to act positively to make improvements to our services.
