"Very warm, caring and compassionate"

About: Belfast City Hospital / Gynaecology General Surgery / Ward 2 East Day of Surgery Unit

(as a service user),

I went in for hysterectomy surgery on a Friday morning.  Myself and a few other ladies were shown to our bay to wait and undergo assessment prior to surgery. We were greeted instantly by a ray of sunshine that is Aswarthy (Ash), she was very warm, caring and compassionate and an extremely amazing nurse.  There was also a HCA there who unfortunately I didn't her name.  She is training to be a nurse and is going to be absolutely fantastic as again she showed all those caring virtues and put me at ease as she knew I was very nervous for the surgery.

Ash brought me round for my surgery handover and it was so lovely to have her by my side before I went in as I was very nervous.  It was an added bonus to see her again after my surgery when she left my belongings up to me and checked how I was.

I was admitted to 5 South ward and stayed for 2 nights, it was a lovely ward and I just wanted to mention a few staff who went over and above. Janice, HCA - heart of gold, nothing too much trouble and was very thoughtful and caring. Carrie, Nurse - done everything with a smile on her face, made sure I was comfortable and always on hand if I needed anything.

All staff on 5 South were really lovely but the above staff shone.  I stayed in Side Room G and the only thing I would mention is the water tap which just started and stopped at random time even if no-one had been near it. Quite annoying when trying to sleep.

The shower room down the back also could do with being looked at as the shower had no pressure at all, when removing it to shower self it was caught and only went to far as the bottom bracket on it, the shower enclosure doesn't close properly either so the floor gets very wet which is a risk in itself. I was told that Estates had been in and upgraded it but definitely needs looked at again.

Dear White 24

My name is Tracey, I am the Assistant Service Manager for Gynaecology at Belfast Trust.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding the warm, caring and compassionate treatment and after care you received whilst an inpatient in Ward 5 South.

We are delighted to have such feedback and will share this with all the team, which they will be very pleased to receive. We pride ourselves in ensuring all patients are cared for in the highest regard and aim to make your stay as comfortable possible.

I note your experience with issues regarding the water tap and the shower facility; we have raised this with our Estates colleagues and hope to have these repaired.

Once again, I thank you for your feedback it is always a pleasure to have our staff recognised for the excellent care they provide for all our service users.

Best wishes

Tracey
