"I’m struggling with how I have been treated"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Primary Care Out of Hours General practices in Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

Last October I had severe arthritis went to my local surgery in Airdrie was given Naproxen with no omaprazole after a while I started to feel very nauseous so I stopped the meds returned to my doctors who then changed me several times to diff medication which didn’t help still felt nauseous. By now I wasn’t just suffering from my arthritis I now had stomach problems which have been severe.

Next my doctor referred me to see consultatant for stomach issues . I waited 11 month and have had nauseous every day since last October. Without even seeing consultatant I was sent for an endoscopy then was informed I had Barrets .

Nauseous still phoned consultants secretary who relayed this back and was then informed not to go for sponge test for barrets but to go for yet another endoscopy. That was 2 within 6 month anyway they biopsies came back as not being Barrets so I worried for months about this . Further more I’m still nauseous so 11 month on I got to see consultatant expecting some answers which I still haven’t got . After all this time consultatant decided I needed a further MRI scan and a bowel test .

Two weeks ago I had a bug that was going about which made my stomach issues a lot worse . By now I’m completely broken still nauseous, not eating much , worried , stressed and was feeling so low . My docs surgery in airdrie are impossible to get in the phone .

3 days iv tried to get through. So I decided to phone OOH to speak to a doctor eventually from 7pm at night I finally got speaking to a doctor at 1.30am. This doctor couldn’t have been nicer. Discussing what had happened since last Oct with her and how I was still the same she told me that the consultatant had changed my meds yet my doctor surgery did not inform me of this well over a week ago .

Still awaiting a phone call and that I had to do a bowel test . Anyway until I get the scan and poo sample done and tested I’m still constant nauseous. Where is the duty of care it is everybody’s duty of care yet no one cares .

This OOHs also mentioned to me that my symptoms could be Helibactor Pylori that seems can cause a false negative in some cases . So until I get these tests done which I don’t know how long that will take I have to still suffer go through another Xmas feeling nauseous 🤢.

My question is how come iv had to go through suffering since last Oct till now and these tests were never done in the 11 months I waited for my consultation. In my experience, this is how NHS works . It feels like no one listens iv said the same thing since last year I knew my stomach wasn’t right I cried in the doctors I cried in the consultant office as I have had enough .

I’m in my mid-60s, iv never had any issues at all with my health till last year. My thoughts are with older patients who if I’m honest are NOT getting the care that they should . I was a social carer for 23 years before I retired caring for others but I’m struggling with how iv been treated by NHS .

How can you get 2 endoscopy and each have different outcomes and biopsies were taken on both occasions. Also locum doctors changing meds constantly no continuity at all .

Consultant sending email changing my meds yet my surgery hasn’t told me yet. So how long have I to suffer to get the answers and get the right treatment which I think I’m entitled to like thousands of others.

Also what about these patients in Airdrie with this surgery who are not receiving the care that they need. This doctors has a duty of care which it is not providing.

Iv since emailed the health secretary about my concerns today. The complaints iv read online about this practice are all true I can verify that, I know about doctors, surgery’s being under strain but other surgeries in the Airdrie area are still answering phones and getting appointments yet not this one. I honestly don’t think they have any doctors to accommodate over 2,500 patients in Airdrie who I believe are suffering due to this.

Good afternoon Carer640

Thank you for taking the time to post about your positive experience you had when you had to attend an appointment at Primary Care Out of Hours, Douglas Street, Hamilton.

I will pass on your lovely comments to the team.

Unfortunately I cannot comment on the care you received from your own GP as they are independent contractors and not managed within NHS Lanarkshire. To discuss your care you would need to speak to the Practice Manager.

Take care, Pamela.
