"Maternity"

About: Maternity care / Ward 45 ( antenatal) Maternity care / Ward 46 (post-natal) Maternity care / Ward 48 (labour ward)

(as a service user),

Sat for days in Antenatal as labour ward couldn’t take me. Was told the same story everyday, why bring us in if we’re going to have to sit for days when we could have sat at home. Couldn’t fault the care in labour ward at all, the girls were brilliant and excellent at their job.

However when we got to the postnatal ward I thought it was just chaos. There didn't seem to be enough staff on for the amount of people within the ward, it just felt very unsafe. Only saw a midwife when I first came on the ward and when I getting ready to leave. Hats off to the support workers  them girls were run of their feet and it was them caring to all the patients needs and answering questions, we seen them girls more than we did midwife’s and they were pulled in all directions. I even overheard staff saying their at breaking point and not sure how much longer they can keep it up, I don’t blame the girls it not an easy environment. I know it’s not the midwife’s fault but I think something needs to be done as lots of women on the ward was saying the same thing as me.
