I write to make you aware of the care I received whilst I attended RVH ED following advise from the GPOOH doctor.
A bit of background: I was post hysterectomy 15 days and experiencing symptoms out of what I felt normal which had got worse over a few days.
When I went in the waiting room was packed and I was thinking I'm going to be here still at sunrise. I arrived at 9.30pm.
Fast forward 1.5hrs I was called by Deputy Triage Nurse John and straight away felt at ease as he listened to me, really understood what I was saying and offered me advice. Gratefully he got my medication prescribed and contacted the Gynaecologist On Call to see if they would assess me without me having to be seen by ED doctor first.
I had the benefit of hearing the start of this call and feel that he advocated for me very well, got my complaints across and was determined to get my seen in a timely manner in the right place and at the right time. I went to waiting area when he came out to inform me Gynae would be over to assess me but unfortunately wasn't able to offer a timescale which is understandable giving the pressures but kept that clear open communication.
I was extremely happy not to have waited that long before the Dr came over to assess me and give me appropriate treatment.
Without John fighting my corner I do believe I could still be sitting post op on the chair within ED. I was thankfully discharged home to recover by 2:00am. I am extremely impressed by this young man's dedication to his nursing role and feel like he went over and above his role to ensure the patient was at the centre of his decision making. Please pass my gratitude on to him.
