I attended hospital for a Hysteroscopic morcellation of fibroid, hysteroscopy and biopsy and insertion of mirena. I was an outpatient at Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro. Gynaecology department.
The procedure was carried out on time. I had the opportunity before hand to discuss in depth with the consultant what was the best way forward. She explained what would happen and the reason it was advised. The procedure itself was uncomfortable but not painful. I was given local anaesthetic and gas and air and this really helped.
The nurse offered that I could watch on the screen but I declined. The consultant and supporting nurses were very reassuring and I felt reassured by the way they carried out the procedure. I did not feel embarrassed and they treated me with total respect.
Afterwards the nurse explained what I would be feeling and what to do if I felt unwell. The consultant explained exactly what she had done and gave me a copy of the letter she was sending to my GP.
I felt a little shaky and uncomfortable for about an hour or two afterwards, but then felt okay, just like a mild period pain. I took painkillers before and afterwards as advised.
