"Having to stand while waiting"

About: Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre / Haematology Ambulatory Care Service

(as the patient),

I attend a haematology clinic at the Beatson regularly and it is always very busy. Each appointment is a complicated 3-step process since the patient must have weight and blood pressure checks, then see a doctor then have bloods taken. There is inevitably a lot of waiting although the staff work very hard to minimise the waits.

Recently I had to stand for most of the time and also felt very anxious with so many strangers around me. Typically the patients have low stamina and a compromised immune system as a result of their condition/treatment. The waiting area is just not set up for the volume and condition of the patients- for example there were not enough chairs.

Dear Waldemar1,

Many thanks for your feedback, which I am sorry to read of this experience that you have had to stand for most of the time in a busy out patient department. Firstly please accept my apologies for this experience & I also hope to reassure you that we are reviewing and that we are in the process of trying to make improvements to try expand our out patient capacity. Please know that I will share your experience with appropriate managers & please don't hesitate to be in touch with myself if there are any other issues.
