"Telephone assessment for camhs"

About: Children and Young People Services / Child and Adolescent Mental Services

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter who is 15 was referred to camhs and had to have the initial assessment on the phone. I am aware that it's difficult to see the amount of people that need assessed in a timely manner however telephone assessment should be a choice not mandatory. Our nurse practitioner was nice but I find it difficult to understand how someone can be assessed without seeing their non verbal cues. Our first experience with Camhs was fine, but we found it an unusual experience sharing so much personal detail and not being able to see the person.
