Our elderly, frail mother who is in her eighties and has COPD. She developed pneumonia over the weekend in early Jan. On Sunday she deteriorated very rapidly. We had already contacted Dr on call, who had requested an ambulance- it wasn’t urgent at this stage. We contacted Dr on Call who advised to call the ambulance service.
The Paramedic who took our call, Brook, was outstanding in her reassurance, advice and exceptionally prompt response. The paramedics, Chris and Eunan, were amazing in every way. Treatment commenced in the ambulance. They called A&E in AAH in advance and our mother was admitted immediately upon arrival. The dr, Orla, and team in A&E in midst of being swamped by patients were so attentive and treatment was immediate. Our mother remained in A&E for 3 days and was cared for in an exceptional manner.
She was the admitted to A1, where we met a team of outstanding, hardworking and dedicates medical professionals. Dr Claire; nurses Emily, Clodagh, Aerma, Setfree and Jessica; student nurses Amy and Gracie; also Philip, Tom the physio and Catherine, and the pharmacist Alastair made mammy’s journey of recovery so smooth. The Respiratory team of highly skilled nurses also cared exceptionally well and special mention to Pat, who gave such practical advice and insight to us as a family too.
Every member of the team are a credit to themselves and the healthcare profession. We cannot praise you all highly enough. Thank you is a small statement but with immense meaning and genuinely from our hearts. Mammy got home today after ten days, a new woman all credit to you all. Keep up the great work under immense pressures and look after yourselves too. Thank you
