"Becoming type 1 diabetic in my 60's"

About: Community Services (Adult Physical Health) / Diabetes Specialist Nursing

(as a service user),

I was diagnosed following routine blood pressure checks. I had to attend A&E lasting 19 hours but other than the length of time, was very positive.

I have had close contact with the diabetic specialist ever since and when i was offered the education course, i jumped at the chance.

The course was excellent, information give was fantastic, pitched at the right level. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable with an easy atmosphere. Just fab thank you.

I think it would be brilliant if follow up refresher courses could be offered in the future to keep abreast of any new information.

One item that i feel would be beneficial in the course would be to state the difference between type1 and type 2 diabetes.

Also to possibly offer more good food information for type1 diabetes.

Hi thank you so much for your positive feedback regarding the recent education session you attended with our service.

I will be sharing this feedback with the rest of the team and I appreciate your suggestions of things that would be useful to incorporate into the sessions in the future.

I will be reviewing the lay out of the sessions and will be including some information about type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Regarding having refresher sessions, at any point whilst you remain under our service, you can access the education again. In the future if you feel you would like to attend a refresher, you can ask your GP / practice nurse to refer you back to our service to attend the education again.

Please see the link provided to the Diabetes UK website which provides very good resources to people with different types of diabetes, on a wide variety of issues related to their diabetes: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/

Many thanks
