"Falls clinic and Community falls prevention"

About: East Dunbartonshire Health & Social Care Partnership New Stobhill Hospital / Physiotherapy

(as a service user),

I feel that the amount of information provided at the falls clinic and when seeing the Community falls physiotherapist was very in- depth and too much for only one meeting - Having follow ups and more regular input with the Physiotherapist helped improve my understanding.

I think having that one to one assessment really helped understand the information and allowed me to ask questions at second meeting and the physiotherapist saw improvements. I feel by getting rid of the service and just giving someone falls prevention advice booklets would lead to overload and poor engagement - If I was given just the booklets after seeing my G.P I would not of carried out the exercises.

Initially I attended my G.P and informed them of falls. I was then referred to the falls service and had a call from the CFPP service.  I had a home visit by the support worker- I was provided then with a walking stick as the one I was previously using had worn end and not safe. I was also provided advice on a benefits check. After speaking to the support worker, I was referred to the Falls clinic at Stobhill and saw the Consultant. I was also referred to the Falls Physiotherapist.

The physiotherapist gave me an assessment, leading to increased confidence and progress. I was told after my follow up appointment that the service was being stopped - I feel that with out the CFPP service I would not of progressed as well. I think the whole process was great. I think the service going away is very disappointing.

I think the only way to make this service better would be more regular contact and one to one exercise sessions with the Physiotherapist. The one to one contact with the physiotherapist is what gets people responding in a quicker and more satisfactory manor.

I think all the staff that have helped me have been professional and a credit to Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Dear Very concerned patient

Thank you for getting in touch via Care Opinion.

We are pleased to hear that the one-to-one assessments and follow-up sessions with the physiotherapist significantly improved your understanding and confidence. It is heartening to know that the personalised approach allowed you to ask questions and see improvements over time.

We also appreciate your kind words about the support worker who provided you with a new walking stick and advice on benefits, as well as your acknowledgment of the professionalism of all the staff who assisted you.

Please be assured that your feedback and concerns will be shared with the service.

Kind Regards

Nicole
