"Friendly, supportive and efficient"

About: Trauma & orthopaedics / Orthopaedic National Treatment Centre Victoria Hospital / Pre-assessment

(as the patient),

I had an excellent pre-op experience at the National Treatment Centre. All the staff I met were very friendly, supportive and efficient. The new centre itself is sparklingly clean, well designed and spacious.

My only small gripe is that I failed to read the site map properly and confused 3  with Phase 3. This meant I was in the main hospital, where reception was unmanned and there is no signage to The National Treatment Centre. I eventually found it, via a detour to outpatients in the main hospital.

Maybe the map could be labelled more clearly or just larger print; some internal signage would be helpful. I was probably unusual, as I parked in a street outside the hospital so arrived as pedestrian.

However once in the right place, I was treated very well indeed, thank you!

Dear HK57,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the pre-assessment service. I am delighted to hear all the staff were friendly, supportive and efficient. It is important to us as a department that patients feel well supported in their pre-op stage so that they can get the most out of the service. I will pass on your compliments to the staff.

On behalf of the pre-assessment department I wish you well with your upcoming surgery and recovery.

Kind regards

Stephanie Allan

Acting Senior Charge Nurse of Pre-assessment

Dear HK57

My name is Siobhan McIlroy and I am the Head of Patient Experience at NHS Fife. I am delighted to hear that you had an excellent pre-op experience at the National Treatment Centre (NTC), it is a lovely new facility that we are lucky to have and offer to our patients.

I am sorry you found it difficult to find the NTC. Coming to hospital can be an anxious time without the added stress of getting lost. I am going to go to the main reception and have a look at the signage and see what we can do. Sometimes the reception is covered and we have meet and greet volunteers and I am sorry those services were not available to you on your visit.

Glad you were treated so well when you eventually found it. Take care and best wishes, Siobhan

Dear HK57,

Thank you for sharing your concerns with access to the NTC.

As a result of your feedback, we reviewed the maps provided to patients for directions. We agree that they were confusing and difficult to navigate. The map should have clearly indicated that there is no internal access to the NTC from the main hospital and that it can only be accessed from outside.

We have relayed this to the team, who have since updated the map and will now ensure it is provided to patients in colour. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, as we hope this improvement will make navigation easier for patients in the future.

Thank you

Andrea Bendowski
