"Paramedics were kind, caring and compassionate"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Scottish Ambulance Service / Ambulance Control Centre Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

I developed a sudden very high temperature and despite Paracetamol it would not settle. Due to how high it was, I attempted to call NHS 24, it was going to be quite a wait to get through and I felt I was becoming more quickly unwell, therefore, I telephoned the ambulance service.

At first one paramedic attended to assess the situation, and made the decision that I did require an ambulance to be taken to hospital. Promptly an ambulance came with 2 paramedics, who after taking a history from me of being discharged from hospital that day, found an appropriate area in hospital for me to be admitted.

Thank you to all 3 paramedics who attended to me that evening, I was very apprehensive that I called an ambulance but didn't know what to do due to how high my fever was and how unwell I felt. All 3 paramedics were kind, caring and compassionate.

Due to your assessment and response, I got the treatment promptly I required. Thank you.

Dear travellertj94,

Many thanks for taking the time to share your feedback here on Care Opinion. I note that your feedback relates to a few different NHS services. I am writing on behalf of the Scottish Ambulance Service. I am so sorry to read about your recent ill health and and I do hope that you are feeling better now. I am pleased to hear that the paramedic staff were kind, caring and compassionate and due to their assessment and response, you received the appropriate treatment.

If you wish I can pass on the feedback to the crews directly. To do so we would need to know the date, time and address that the Ambulance attended and your name. This information can be sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot for the team to pick up. If you do decide to do this, would you be so kind as to make reference to your CareOpinion username so that the team can easily locate your story and share it with the crew.

I wish you all the very best and thanks again.

Kind Regards

Marie,

Patient Experience Manager

Dear travellertj94

Thank you for sharing your story on Care Opinion, I hope you are feeling much better following your treatment and discharge from hospital.

I am replying on behalf of NHS 24, I would like to apologise for the predicted wait time to connect to an NHS 24 Call Taker, especially when you were feeling so unwell. We are aware at times, due to demand, wait times are longer than we would like. This is not the experience we want for our callers and we are working hard to address this by ensuring our systems and processes are as efficient as possible. Please be assured, this remains a top priority.

Thank you again for sharing your experience.

Best Wishes,

Laura
