"Stroke and my recovery"

About: Cameron Hospital / Stroke care Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 1 (Emergency Medical) Victoria Hospital / Intensive Care Unit Victoria Hospital / Medical High Dependency Victoria Hospital / Stroke

(as the patient),

At the beginning of November 2022 in the evening I experienced slurred speech and weaknesses to my whole left side. A quick immediate trip to A and E at Victoria hospital in Kirkcaldy to be diagnosed with a stroke.

Skip forward to my recovery, it was great. My whole experience was very positive starting from. A and E staff than I was put on Medical High dependency Unit from ICU because of a chest infection and the professionals doctor and nurses where outstanding.

Once I got better I was moved to ward 42, where again I was cared for by a superb team of doctors, nurses, cleaning and catering staff all super friendly caring but firm and professional then at the beginning of December I was moved to the rehab unit at Sir George Sharp Unit at Cameron Hospital in Windygates.

As I come from a very caring family environment, it felt like a home from home. A very relaxing yet busy ward where a huge team of nurses, physios, doctor, catering assistants, cleaners, occupational therapist and psychological support. They took care of all the patients, it is incredible, professional, friendly, caring and effective way, going well above the duties call both day and night shift where amazing.

I was discharged in January 2023 and the after care lasted for months with the first appointment as an out patient a month after discharge, but contacts where left in case there might have been an urgent need. Again the care was outstanding. My experience was perfect under the circumstances food could be better.

Looking back my overall care was very professional, felt personal and I could see the ever one around me was treated with the same compassion, care and professionalism.
