"Feel totally failed"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Maternity care

(as the patient),

Worst place ever. There is the odd nurse that are lovely. But I have experienced some receptionists who are rude, unwelcoming, and don't seem to have any information on me.

The waiting time to get through has been horrendous. I get an appointment and have to wait hours. I once waiting 9 hours to been examined and then was told to come back the next day for a scan. The phones are often not answered when I call and when they are, they transfer me to another phone that doesn’t answer. I was told i’d get a call by a doctor to discuss results but I did not get a call back and now have gave up in trying cause the phones don't get answered. I can’t wait hours to be seen by a doctor so i just give up.

Feel totally failed by this A23. I dread my next pregnancy and having to go back there.

Dear Patient,

Thank you for sharing this feedback. We are saddened to hear that this has been your experience of our hospitals and would not want anyone to feel this way. We would welcome the opportunity to look into this further and understand what happened on this occasion.

Our Gynaecology Triage Unit (GTU) provides same day emergency care and therefore, similar to attending A&E, you are assessed and prioritised. It is difficult to predict how many patients will attend which can lead to increased waiting times.

We would always encourage our patients to speak with the Nurse In Charge, whether they are attending GTU or A23, so that any concerns can be addressed and resolved at the time. As this was not possible we would like to be able to look into this matter further and support you in getting the answers that you need. If you would like me to do this please email me personally via the email address nuhnt.pals@nhs.net so that we can obtain more information.

In the meantime, please be reassured that your comments have been heard and shared with the senior members of the team for Ward A23.

The Patient Experience and Engagement team - NUH.
