"Medical abortion"

About: Belfast Health & Social Care Trust / The Rose Clinic

(as the patient),

I contacted BPAS on a Friday afternoon and come Monday morning the clinic had contacted me first thing which was great as technically I didn't have to call them (missed the call but my own fault). The nurse was super nice, and I had an appointment the following day. I either got lucky with just timing for an appointment or maybe appointments are readily available, but I personally both appreciated the quickness and also didn't (totally personal, additional time would have been nice).

The services in the clinic themselves was great, it's a mixed clinic for services so it's not as if anyone really knew why I was there and my partner was able to join me in the room for everything (I know that's not always the case in some clinics and services). I had two nurses, one trainee and both were incredibly nice and friendly ... They put you at ease for sure, so that's nice. It did feel a bit awkward getting a scan with my partner behind the curtain, I felt a little exposed in that regard, would have been nice to either have him beside me or out of the room entirely if I am being honest.

The information provided was good, probably all given just a bit too much together to truely process everything from intro to scan to pills, a little break or moments pause personally would have been appreciated. I was overwhelmed for sure and missed some important information... So definitely read the information leaflet provided afterwards.

Additional aftercare options could be provided versus optional and personal choices, it would be nice to have say an option up front that signs you up to a free follow up consult, and I don't know, I think I should of said yes to the initial consult to talk options (always talk options).

I think overall the service is beyond great, I am so glad to be able to have this choice at home now and not everyone will really understand the importance of that availability. The clinic are great and they won't make you feel anything other than comfortable and safe, that's beyond important.

Louny96 thank you so much for taking time to share your experience and give lovely feed back on the Rose team.

Belfast is a larger service than other trusts so telephone calls and clinic appointments are usually available very soon after referral and an appointment offered to suit. Appointments or treatment can be deferred at patient request.

If required patients can avail of pregnancy choices counselling and post pregnancy counselling through Informing Choices NI.

We will take your comments about the scan/presence of partner on board to improve our patient experience.

Routine follow up appointments are not required after abortion but we do provide a mobile number for use if any concerns/issues after treatment and a low sensitivity pregnancy test is provided to confirm treatment is complete.

Thanks again for telling your story -it helps us continue to improve and develop our service.
