We arrived at the birth centre in mid January and we're quickly taken to a room by Becky who cared for us alongside her colleagues in the most calm, positive and wonderful way. I felt immediately safe, listened to and respected.
Giving birth to my first baby was always going to be overwhelming, but every single step was so positive, Becky clearly encouraging me, explaining what to do and asking me how I was feeling. She talked me through listening to my body and reassured everything that happened. I was able to get in the pool and deliver my baby in the water which was my dream and one I really didn't expect to come true.
Even at the most intense moments or when things went a bit awry at the end, I was made to feel that I had it all under control. The room was beautiful and the midwifes quickly added lights/scents/music to make it extra special despite the short time available.
After the birth the care continued to be exceptional as the placenta and stitches were dealt with in a sensitive and human way. The whole midwife team made me feel that nothing was too much hassle, that they truly had my best interests at heart and they were able to help me with concerns about the babies health, feeding and so on.
I can honestly say the whole birth was perfect and I couldn't have dreamt of anything more. I will remember the care we received for my whole life.
