I had gallstones which had been difficult to remove despite several attempts, firstly in Aberdeen and recently in the surgical unit of Forth Valley Royal Hospital where I have been admitted four times & in theatre three times in five months.
Referred, initially, to the surgical emergency unit by my excellent GP in Balfron. This was a much better experience than going in through A&E.
During this and my several subsequent admissions, I was cared for, cheerfully & efficiently, by too many people to thank them all individually. However I will mention Sharon & Jen who managed to make Pre-Operative Assessment enjoyable & who pointed me to Care Opinion.
The surgical, radiological & anaesthetic teams worked together on the difficult task of removing the last of the stones, overseen by Ms Cannings & Mr Crumley whose cheerful rational optimism helped make the repeated admissions & procedures bearable. Any anxiety was reduced by clear explanations & answers to questions..Minor issues include some rationalisation of blood testing & the insertion of cannulae to save staff time & patient discomfort. (The “hygienic” tourniquets used are awful in my opinion). The meal service was good but I did not find the meals appetising.Bed TVs should switch off sound at least by 11pm.As has been said elsewhere, people make the service & FVRH is a good example of this.
Overall, the hospital & it’s staff gave me great care for which I am grateful.
