I was an a&e referral who was told to go to the ward. When I did I was rudely told by the housekeeper I was in the wrong place and needed the outpatients. On my arrival to the outpatients I was seen to by a nurse who did her routine checks and was told the doctors would be round to talk to me. Once the doctors had arrived I was pulled into a room to discuss what was happening with me and that a plan had been made. I was surprised I was not involved with my own care and felt like I was being pushed out of the door, however I was happy to follow this plan as I had little knowledge of what exactly was going on.
It wasn’t until I had a very uncomfortable pain i went to back and was able to speak to another doctor. The entire time of me being there and explaining what was happening, asking questions or even asking about different things so I can feel comfortable myself or what I wanted to happen, I felt i was being judged and some staff were rude plus I felt they were giving me nasty looks. I could hear some staff was discussing me so loud I could hear what was being said through the door and some comments about me was made which were inappropriate. It was an unpleasant situation to be in and I just wanted to leave, this did cause me to break down crying. I was able to leave later and was happy to be out of the department due to feeling upset and embarrassed.
In the future I will be asking to go to other hospitals for any urology problems as I experience both ward staff and outpatient staff who seemed rude and uncaring and they have put me off the Hallamshire service for this area completely.
