"Results of MRI scan"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Neurology Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Xrays & Scans Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Neurosciences (DCN)

(as a relative),

Hi my dad was admitted to Forth Valley at the end of Jan after losing consciousness whilst in the garden sustaining a head injury.  After CT scan they discovered a cystic brain lesion which required further investigation at the advice of Neuro based in NHS Lothian.

He was kept as an inpatient for an MRI as a result.  The team overseeing him were excellent and wanted him to remain an inpatient until they received further advice from Edinburgh as to what his care plan should be.  He was discharged on the next day with feedback that Neuro would be discussing his case as an MDT on the next day and advised that he would hear from them in due course.

We are now a week down the line and have had nothing.  He made an appointment with his GP which he attended today who has not received any correspondence from Neuro and only had notice of his stay in FV.  As you can imagine, as a family we are very worried and eager to know what the results were and what the plan will be for my dad.  I have attempted to contact NHS Lothian DCN dept on numerous occasions to no avail  - I have tried numerous numbers from the website that all just ring out and/or are cut off.  Can someone please assist us with where we go from here?

Dear Chester76,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us on Care Opinion.

I am sorry to hear about your dad’s situation, I can only imagine how stressful and uncertain this time must be for you and your family.

I have reached out to DCN - OPD7, and the Senior Charge Nurse, Jan Ferguson, has kindly offered to assist. Please give her a call at 0131 312 1708 to provide your dad’s personal details, and she will be able to help you.

Wishing you and your family all the best.

Best wishes

Ana Mezzomo

Dear Chester76

Thank you for taking time to share your experience in relation to the care you received in DCN.

I am sorry to hear that you have not heard from your neurosurgeon and have been waiting for the last week.

I can look into this for you if you email me and give me your dad's details at Joseph.Mutasa@nhs.scot

Kind regards

Joseph

Update posted by Chester76 (a relative)

Thank you both for responding to my story. We since received a phone call to let us know that my dad was to be admitted for surgery the next day. He has now had successful brain surgery & is doing amazingly well. The team were fantastic. Up until the point of seeing the registrar that evening we still didn’t know anything so it was a real shock to us all that he was to go in that evening for surgery that quickly, not sure if someone should have been in touch sooner as the reg did explain they had been trying to get a bed for my dad since the previous Wed. As said we could not fault the care he has & is still receiving.

No need for anything further to be done, we are very grateful for the treatment he has had to date.

Thanks again.
