"Made me feel so relaxed and well looked after"

About: West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance) / Gastroenterology

(as the patient),

Appointment for upper GI endoscopy/OGD and Colonoscopy

Staff made me feel at ease right away as I was a bit nervous.

Sam booked me in, went through every detail of what was going to happen with professionalisation and humour, which relaxed me.

Next, Joe put the cannula into my arm again with the same humour and professional treatment.  Next, into the theatre Rebecca was the doctor performing the procedures, again explaining everything in great detail making sure I completely understood everything that was going to happen to me.

I was offered sedation which on Sam's advice I opted for and was extremely grateful for it. Also had it topped up when Rebecca saw I was a bit uncomfortable. Jan and Joe were busily administrating various things to me and again making sure I was entirely happy and comfortable.  We did end up having a really good laugh and I have to say it was a more enjoyable experience than I was expecting.  The horrible medicine to clear everything out was far worse.

Into recovery and again a lovely friendly nurse Misha looked after me while I recovered from the sedation.

She then rang my husband to pick me up. 

A big thank you to the 5 lovely staff who made me feel so relaxed and very well looked after.

My name is Chris and I am from the Patient Engagement Team. Thank you so much for taking the time to post your story.

It is really heartening to hear of your positive experience of the staff that made you feel so relaxed and looked after. These procedures can feel very daunting, but we are grateful that you have highlighted the professionalism and humour of the staff, especially from Joe, Rebecca, Sam, Jan and Misha.
