"Appreciated the tender care at my first operation"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital / Day Surgery Unit Royal Alexandra Hospital / Same Day Admissions Unit (SDAU)

(as the patient),

I am writing to express my gratitude for what I consider to be the excellent care and attention I received from Surgical Same Day Unit Team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Although I had to wait a considerable time for my scan to determine that an operation was considered necessary, once this was established the hospital staff kept me informed of progress being made to address this at every stage.

The pre-operation check was very effective and outlined clearly what would take place on the day, what I would require to bring and the preparations I needed to make prior attendance.

On the day of my operation, I was admitted to the unit on time, treated with compassionate kindness and understanding while being prepared and fully briefed by the nurses, anaesthetist and surgeon. This was very re-assuring as it being my first operation I was unnecessarily nervous.

The theatre staff were extremely efficient and professional. Needless to say I don’t recall the actual operation being under general anaesthetic. However when I came round, the after care I received there was kind, thorough and thoughtful. I also appreciated a final visit from the surgeon to enquire how I was and check with the nurses that all was well.

The final stage was completed in the Same Day Unit where I received exceptional care and attention from all the team there. Buttered toast has never tasted quite as good. I was frequently monitored which was conducted in a friendly warm manner by the nurse who finally discharged me back into the care of my wife.

Words cannot describe how much, not just I but my family, appreciate the tender attention I received throughout this experience. Obviously, I hope I do not need another operation soon but based on this experience I wouldn’t have any trepidation, and I may say would welcome the opportunity to return to the Royal Alexandra Hospital once more.

Dear JonoTNS

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such positive feedback. I'm delighted that your first surgical experience has been a good.

I'm grateful to read how well you were taken care of and that you were treated with kindness and consideration, this is what our teams always strive for.

Post-operative tea and toast is indeed the most welcomed comfort after a long fast.

I trust your recovery continues in the right direction. I will ensure our teams are shared your kind words, so many thanks once more on their behalf.

Warmest regards

Pamela
