"Vital recovery from PTSD, anxiety and depression"

About: Ealing Talking Therapies Northwick Park Hospital / Accident and emergency Northwick Park Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I suffered a terrible cycling accident which resulted in frontal skull fracture, splitting my forehead and upper lip open. Knocking my 3 front teeth, broke my  ribs, scars to elbow, arms, legs and more. I was unable to sleep and function as I work dealing with complex and bodily injuries and fatalities at work. I was unable to function and was having panic attacks and flashbacks about my trauma.

I started therapy with Sita and she has really helped me to overcome so many issues that I had. Sita has been fantastic in that she has been helpful, punctual, consistent, attentive and caring in how she has providing me with support.

Sita really has broken down my trauma into stages which has been dealing with the worst moments of my trauma, being able to unpack every part of it and the worst of it, and working on techniques to help me cope with the new, recovering me.

I could not look look in the mirror and would break down at the thought of my injuries and peoples perceptions especially as my job entails presenting to large groups of people. I was worried about my scars and inability to eat properly and the future prognosis of my teeth but with Sita helping me cope I have really now for the first time felt better and positive about coming out of the other side.

Sita has given me help in ways I didn't think were possible by way of CBT therapy and I would like to say thank you.

I have to also mention the doctors at Northwick Park who snapped the bones in my face back into place while forcing my teeth back into their sockets and wiring upper teeth and stitching my pallet. While knowing I am allergic to anaesthetic. The pain was great but the work they did in what I know now means I am closer to what I was before than I would be without their assistance.

Dear Service User,

Thank you firstly for sharing your harrowing story. It was very insightful to read and it is clear that you have gone through a great deal.

The first few paragraphs of your feedback relates to a service that does not fall under our Trust. I will share the homepage of West London NHS Trust in case you have not done so already: www.westlondon.nhs.uk/Ealing-talking-therapies

In terms of our Trust (London Northwest University Healthcare NHS Trust), it is amazing to hear that the doctors at Northwick Park were able to perform such complex and crucial work. The fact that you’re now closer to how you were before, despite the pain, speaks volumes about their skill and dedication. It must have been an incredibly tough situation, especially with the added challenge of being allergic to anaesthetic.

I will make sure to share this with the Surgery team.

Wishing you the best in your recovery.

Kind Regards,

Leanne Fernandes
