"Very good at listening and discussing"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Oncology unit

(as the patient),

I have been discharged from the oncology department today and wanted to acknowledge how well I was treated by all the staff there from receptionist, lunch assistant, volunteer to the nursing staff. From the beginning of my cancer diagnosis at the CT/MRI department through until today, everyone has been kind and professional. Although not an experience anyone would wish for, the professionalism of everyone has made a huge difference to coping with the diagnosis. The ability to communicate  and discuss with patients is so important and the oncology nurses were very good at listening and discussing.

The only improvement that I would have liked was the explanation of the process for getting bloods done before therapy sessions.

Dear greengranny,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback following your treatment in oncology. I am pleased to hear that your experience was positive and I will pass on your thoughtful feedback to the whole team. However I am sorry to hear that you did not feel the process of getting bloods checked prior to treatment was explained. The nursing team strive to ensure that those requiring treatment are kept informed of what to expect but recognised that on some occasions information may be misunderstood, misheard or missed. With this in mind, and working in partnership with the Maggie's centre to improve the way we delivered some of this vital information, the team recently completed a video which is now shown at the pre assessment appointments now held in the Maggie's center. This video explains what to expect and advises that bloods are required to be checked prior to each treatment and how to arrange that. I hope that this reassures you that as a team we are grateful for all the feedback we get to allow us to continually look at ways to improve the care we deliver.

I wish you the very best as you recuperate following your treatment

Take care

Susan Davidson
