My sister had “heart burn” all day and high pulse rate. Called 111 and were recommended to go to RD&E Emergency Dept. This was at midnight so arrived about 12.30 am. Checked in and reception already had details from 111. My sister was seen within 15 mins for initial assessment and advised she would need a blood test which could be an hour before it was taken and then have to wait a couple of hours before the result would be available. All as expected. When called to the “bed” area of the emergency ward she was hooked up to monitors and kept an eye on. All questions were answered as best the nurses could whilst waiting for results of blood tests. The doctor arrived to explain the blood test results which showed that she had suffered a, fortunately, mild heart attack. A bit of a shock as my sister is a fit 64 year old. The doctor wanted to keep her in for a couple of days to do more tests and decide on treatment. All was carefully and thoughtfully explained. I left my sister in the very capable and kind hands of the staff and left around 3.30. My sister was treated promptly and in a very kindly and helpful manner. Thank goodness for the NHS. Thank you to everyone who looked after her.
