"My Father's stay"

About: Gartnavel General Hospital / Elderly Medicine (wards 2a, 2b, 2c, 3a, 3c, 4c, 5c, 6a, 8a & 8c) Gartnavel General Hospital / Physiotherapy

(as a relative),

He was sent there for rehabilitation after a fall and broken hip surgery at QEUH.

The nursing staff in 6C were kind, caring and patient and he received very good personal care during his stay but the staff were very busy and seemed under resourced on most shifts. This mostly impacted on waiting times for toilet visits. Despite being a centre of excellence for rehabilitation the physio sessions weren't as frequent as the ward would like, again limited resources, they were thorough but due to the time between them not as effective as they could be.

Communication from the ward was good and overall it's just a lack of resource which possibly lengthened the time of his stay and the amount of mobility he regained prior to discharge.

Dear Moonxp78

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience with the care provided to your father in Ward 6C following his hip surgery.

We are pleased to hear that the nursing staff were kind, caring, and patient. We also acknowledge the concerns you raised regarding the staff being busy and under-resourced, as well as the frequency of physiotherapy sessions. We are currently looking at ways to improve this.

Your comments about the good communication from the ward are appreciated, and we are committed to ensuring that all our patients and their families are well-informed and supported throughout their stay.

Thank you for bringing these issues to our attention.

Please pass on our best wishes to your father.

Kind Regards

Nicole

Dear Moonxp78

Thank you so much for taking the time to feedback you and your Father' experience of care in 6C GGH.

I have communicated your kind words to the nursing team in the ward. SCN Weir is glad you found her team kind, caring, and patient to your Father's needs.

We acknowledge that time with our Physio and Occupational Therapists is at a premium. And I can inform you that we as a service are already looking to make changes to how we deliver rehabilitation to people like your Father.

Once again, thank you for your feedback. And I hope your Father continues recuperate well at home

Laura
