"The whole team made it a really positive experience"

(as a service user),

Back in September, I had my baby boy. He ended up coming early after my 3rd bleed due to placenta previa necessitated an ambulance ride and an early section at 35 weeks. Everyone in Wheal Rose who looked after me beforehand were brilliant, as were the surgical team, who delivered him, but Wheal Fortune were just wonderful and I will never forget their kindness.

I was in there 12 days, due to my baby having some trouble with feeding, due to his prematurity, and needing to be tube fed. We were so well looked after by absolutely everybody, from midwives, nursery nurses (the Pink Ladies), the infant feeding team, the dinner ladies (who went above and beyond to help me with my awkward gluten and dairy free diet) and even the super friendly cleaners. Not a single person was not excellent at their job - they were all cheerful and full of smiles, despite being so busy. It was remarkable.

Even though we took up our room for quite a long time, we were made to feel nothing was too much trouble and encouraged to press the bell whenever we needed anything. I didn't have to press it much though because everyone was so attentive!

The nursery nurses were the true stars for us. They were incredibly supportive and gave us loads of advice, as first time parents which was absolutely invaluable. I shall remember Linsley and Katherine especially fondly, as I think they looked after us the most and they really helped us to get my baby boy bottle feeding finally so that we could go home. I was also in there alone a lot of the time, as my husband had other responsibilities at home and couldn't always visit as much as he wanted. They really took care of me as much as the baby, making sure I was okay mentally, especially near the end when we'd been in quite a while and I was keen to get home.

The whole team made staying in hospital a really positive experience, when it could have been a lonely and anxious one.

My baby is now 5 months and absolutely thriving, in part due to the wonderful start in life they helped give him. I already sent a card to say thank you, but just discovered this as well and wanted to sing my praises publicly!
