My Father was admitted to West Cornwall Hospital early February 2025.
He had 2 outpatient appointments booked for mid February which meant he would need to travel to Treliske from Penzance, and back again, by ambulance. This was all booked and I arranged to meet my father at Treliske on his arrival to accompany him.
All went well, the appointments were on time and efficiently carried out.
The second appointment was with Vascular Surgery in the Trelawny Outpatients Dept. On completion of the procedure, my father and I returned to the Reception and they kindly rang the Hospital transport for the return journey.
They informed us we had a 2 hour wait but offered us a hot drink. When the Ambulance crew arrived they could not take my Father as they had to return a stretcher patient and my father could not be left on his own in the ambulance. The crew rang their Control to see if they could take Dad, but to no avail. This meant we had to wait a further 90 minutes for another crew.
The Reception staff at the Trelawny Outpatients were wonderful. Unasked by Dad or myself, they made various phone calls to try to get someone to pick my Dad up earlier to prevent him becoming agitated.
They went above and beyond what was expected of them and I cannot praise them enough. They helped to calm what could have been a difficult situation. Thank you
