"Lack of patient communication"

About: Lagan Valley Hospital / Regional Day Procedure Unit

(as a relative),

It is really important that staff advise waiting patients of some idea that they will be seen . Elderly patients need staff to occasionally remind them they know they are waiting. By not doing this you increase their anxiety and stress. My mother sat for 2 1/2 hours in DPU without staff keeping her aware that she will be seen .Whilst I appreciate wanting is a normal, its about communication, it would make the whole better for everyone

I apologise for your experience within the unit

unfortunately there can be a extended waiting period when a patient is booked for a theatre list as sometimes procedures can take longer than expected and can cause a delay in the list which causes patient waiting time to be longer

but I do appreciate that this was not communicated to the patient and their relative and this has caused some anxiety

I have spoken with the team and have asked them to ensure they are commutating with patient and relative regarding waiting times and we will ensure that all service users are informed of any delays within the list in future

Best wishes
