"Long waiting time"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

After examination it took a lot time for the result, in working order "first in first out" must be observed, but i think "first in last out" is going on here. We badly experienced delay.

Nurses/Doctors and the staff treating us very nicely.

Dear antliaqy76,

Thank you for your feedback.

I am sorry to hear that you had a long wait in our department. I understand that being unwell can cause anxiety as sometimes it can be a life changing event. I am glad to hear that you were treated well by our staff.

There are several factors that can cause delays in result. I am unsure here what result you are referring to. Is it a blood test result, scan report, or just treatment plan? Our laboratory and radiology clinicians usually follow a standard turn around time to ensure that results are delivered at a timely manner. These are then reviewed by the doctor or practitioner in conjunction to their clinical assessment and judgement to formulate an appropriate treatment plan for yourself. However, at times factors such as machine break down, blood sample coagulation, and even the number of test requests can affect these turn around times. ED long wait times can also be due to number of attendees in the department and the severity of their condition needing immediate medical attention from our doctors and practitioners.

We would appreciate if you can let us know in detail about your concern and what you think we can do better. I can be contacted via michelleann.cruel@nhs.net quoting Care Opinion reference 1326805. From my end, I will look again into our processes to ensure that we are not missing anything.

Again, thank you for your feedback and I do hope that you are recovering well.

Kind regards,

Mitch
