"Orthotics Service"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Orthotics

(as a service user),

I attended the Department of Orthotics to obtain a replacement for the insoles that the NHS provided to me years ago, and which are falling apart.

At my first appointment a month or so ago, I was given a thorough professional assessment, and treated with respect and politeness throughout. I know that this department will be helping people with much greater needs than I have, but I did not feel that my needs were felt to be unimportant, as indeed the insoles are very important to me, allowing me to stand, and to get about with much less pain, and this impacts a lot on my everyday functioning, including access to social interactions.

I regret only that my initial request to obtain replacement insoles provoked a response from the appointments service to give me a chiropody appointment instead, which had already proved to be of no use.

Recently everything came to fruition, and I have once again enjoyed the excellent service of Orthotics at the New Victoria, who have also thoughtfully provided a means to return to them in the future, should the need arise. We should be proud of this great NHS service. It's really good.

Thanks very much for taking the time to give us this positive feedback our service and specifically about our clinic at the New Victoria Hospital

I'm very pleased that you have had such a positive experience and were treated with respect and politeness as well as being made to feel your needs were important as we work hard as a team to ensure all our patients experience this standard of care at every appointment.

It's also great to know that the treatment we provide makes a real difference to you, not only reducing your pain and improving your function but allowing you to live your life the way you want to.

I take on board your feedback regarding being directed to the wrong service to begin with and will feed this back to our appointments booking centre in the hope it may mean other patients are more likely to be directed to Orthotics first if that’s the service they require, and I'm glad to hear your clinician provided you with a means to return more easily to us in future.

I will pass this on to the team at New Victoria and the rest of the team as all staff strive to give our patients the best experience and its always great to hear when we are getting things right as it gives us a real morale boost. Like you, I'm also really proud of our NHS can provide both as a service manager and a user of NHS services.

many thanks

Nikki Munro
