I attended the Department of Orthotics to obtain a replacement for the insoles that the NHS provided to me years ago, and which are falling apart.
At my first appointment a month or so ago, I was given a thorough professional assessment, and treated with respect and politeness throughout. I know that this department will be helping people with much greater needs than I have, but I did not feel that my needs were felt to be unimportant, as indeed the insoles are very important to me, allowing me to stand, and to get about with much less pain, and this impacts a lot on my everyday functioning, including access to social interactions.
I regret only that my initial request to obtain replacement insoles provoked a response from the appointments service to give me a chiropody appointment instead, which had already proved to be of no use.
Recently everything came to fruition, and I have once again enjoyed the excellent service of Orthotics at the New Victoria, who have also thoughtfully provided a means to return to them in the future, should the need arise. We should be proud of this great NHS service. It's really good.
