I attended the early pregnancy unit and the care and kindness I received was fantastic. However, I was disappointed when I noticed that my full name, along with my reason for being in the ward (albeit abbreviated) was on a whiteboard that anyone else in the ward could see.
During the admission process, I specifically requested that no student nurses be involved, as I work with student nurses myself and did not want my personal situation to be known to anyone I might interact with professionally. Unfortunately, despite my request, a student nurse did come into my room a couple of times. While I want to emphasise that the student was lovely and professional, I couldn't help but feel embarrassed when I realised I knew them. It made me feel as though my privacy had been compromised, which was quite distressing, given the sensitive nature of my visit. I understand that students are an essential part of healthcare training, but I do believe that patient privacy and comfort should be prioritised, particularly in situations like mine.
That being said, I want to acknowledge that the staff, in general, were incredibly compassionate and understanding, which I truly appreciated. They made sure to comfort me and ensure I was well taken care of. However, I understand that feedback is essential to improving patient care, and I hope that it will further enhance the care provided to future patients.
