"My son went in frightened and came out smiling"

About: Public Health Nursing / School Nursing Service Trustwide

(as a service user),

My son had his P1 health appointment in school with the school nurse. He was very nervous about seeing the nurse as he has had a lot of medical appointments in his life and is scared of anything medical.

Glenda the school nurse was brilliant with him. She explained to him what she was going to do in a way he understood. She made all of the tests fun for him.

She took the time to explain results to me  why he us being referred to the eye specialist for more tests. I got some really good advice on other worries I had about my son. I know I can contact her again.

My son went in frightened and came out smiling. Thank you!

Thank you so much for getting in touch to leave a lovely review for the school nurse Glenda who completed your child's P1 health appraisal.

I understand why your son might feel nervous about attending appointments and I am delighted to read that this appointment with the school nurse was a positive experience. Glenda is empathic and has a friendly, welcoming approach to help children feel at ease and engage in the tasks. It is also great to read you were provided with detailed explanation about referrals and supportive advice on worries you discussed.

We really value receiving your feedback and I will ensure your story is shared with Glenda and the school nursing teams.

Best wishes.

Elizabeth
