"Thoughtful and considerate communication"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Day Surgery

(as the patient),

As an adult who has PTSD around all things medical I was extremely worried and anxious about attending hospital for appointments, physical examinations and then coming into hospital for a small routine procedure.

I want to highlight the excellent levels of care and professionalism  and thank all the staff at the Day Surgery unit, theatre and recovery area for the outstanding level of attention, compassion, empathy and understanding during my recent stay.  Their interactions in dealing with myself, my partner and my psychologist were exemplarily.

Please pass on my sincere thanks to Sam, the pre assessment nurse who went above and beyond her role at every opportunity, she made me feel very safe and secure, took time to understand the issues I was facing and took these into consideration whenever I meet with her. I truly feel she saw the whole of me and not just the medical issue I was coming in for, she took time and care to ensure I was fully involved and understood the information that was given to me and made sure, my voice was heard when making decisions.

Sam ensured this information was then shared with the rest of the team and kept my Psychologist informed of key decisions and updates. Nothing was ever too much trouble for her!! Her warm, caring, humorous  and empathetic nature made it easier for me to visit the hospital and attend appointments and actually receive the care I needed. Her commitment and dedication to patient care again was outstanding and I really appreciate her coming to say hello and offer reassurance while I was waiting to go to theatre. She really does need to be recognised for her efforts

The theatre staff, consultant and recovery area staff were also fantastic - very professional, efficient, warm, approachable, understanding  and nurturing.
While I was in theatre my partner was treated with great care, kindness and consideration from  all the ward staff.  He was kept up to date with information

The thoughtful and considerate communication between all members in the nursing team and other hospital staff made for a very smooth, efficient and pretty much stress free visit

Dear Scuttle45,

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us such lovely, detailed feedback regarding your recent admission with us.

I am very pleased to hear that you had such a pleasant experience and that all the staff you encountered throughout your journey were compassionate, empathetic and communicated well.

I have shared your kind words with both the day surgery and theatre teams and of course, with Sam. She was very appreciative and delighted that she was able to contribute so positively to your experience. She was glad that she was able to help reassure you and alleviate some of your anxieties.

Wishing you well in your recovery,

Nicolle & the Day Surgery Team
