I came for my first injection into my right eye for AMD. I had previously had three injections into my left eye, so was at ease about the procedure.
On those past occasions, I had experienced no pain or discomfort. The staff had cleaned my eye, inserted anaesthetic drops and applied a white rectangle of some kind of paper or plastic material over my eye. They cut an opening into this white shield and effected the injection through the opening without coming into contact with my skin. The preparation of this shield gave time for the anaesthetic drops to take effect. I only felt pressure when the injection was made.
This time my eye was cleaned and the anaesthetic drops were put in. No white shield was used.
I told the person conducting the procedure that I still had feeling in my eye. However, without waiting for the anaesthetic to take effect, they carried out the injection. The pain went right through me.
My course of injections is set to continue at one-monthly intervals for three months. I do not relish the thought of being treated by this person again.
