"Post-menopausal bleeding - long waiting times"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gynaecology (Ward 13)

(as a service user),

I was referred by my GP to Gynaecology at University Hospital Wishaw relative to post-menopausal bleeding and a visible cervical growth. My Mother had uterine and cervical cancer so my anxiety is high.

I called - 4 weeks after referral and still experiencing symptoms - to be told the waiting time for me to be seen was 8-10 weeks.

National guidelines for post-menopausal bleeding indicate women should be seen within 2 weeks.

I understand services are stretched and do not blame the hospital. I am however now left with continuing symptoms (bleeding and cramping) and increasing anxiety.

Very very reluctantly I have contacted a private healthcare provider as I simply cannot wait.

I will be writing to my MSP to convey my deep disappointment. I believe the Scottish Government really do need to better invest in NHS services. In my opinion there is no point or purpose in national guidelines if they cannot be met.

Dear Ystewart13,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Wishaw, Gynaecology.

I can only imagine how worrying a time this must be given your mother's medical history and the current delay in appointment times. In order for us to investigate this more fully, please can I ask that you contact our patient affairs team so they can look into this further and provide you with a personal response? I have included their contact details below.

Best Wishes,

Jenni
