"Difficulties assessed sensitively and with great kindness"

About: Portsmouth and South East Division / Community Therapies – Havant, Hayling and Waterlooville

(as the patient),

Severe mobility issues especially affecting my legs meant that my independence for even getting out of bed was being eroded.

Unable to get into bed without great difficulty.

Unable to safely stand up from normal bed height without assistance and a lot of strain on my arms and body.

Unable to move my legs in bed creating back pain and loss of sleep.

Unable to even sit up in bed.

I felt trapped and it was impossible to independently get up to use the toilet or change incontinence pads in the middle of the night, resulting in multiple infections and loss of sleep.

My occupational therapists Alice and Lisa visited me at home and assessed my needs. The difficulties were assessed sensitively and with great kindness. After trying several bed aids which were not suitable I was then referred for a hospital bed/ profiling bed which has now been installed. It has made a huge difference and means that I can cope more with my degenerative disease. They're helping me through a  very emotionally and physically difficult time and I am hugely grateful for their support.
