"Main Reception"

About: Royal Victoria Hospital (Belfast)

(as a carer),

I attended the RVH for an appointment with my frail mother. I was able to get a parking space with ease however that's when everything went from good to bad.

I walked my frail mother up to reception given that her mobility is quite poor and went to the main Reception in the main building. This was closed. I had no way of asking for directions and no way of booking a porter for my mother, who was in a lot of pain.

There was no signage, no way for me to get a wheelchair or a thing and I was left stranded in the reception area with no help available. This was so stressful and without the help of some lovely people I would probably still be there.

Very poor experience for the most vulnerable.

Dear Service User,

My name is Louise Macdonald and I am currently the Senior Nurse Manager in the Trust with responsibility for the Front of House team in the Royal Victoria Hospital.

I want to offer an apology to you for what you have experienced at main reception. This has fallen short of the service we would normally provide. I can assure you that I will follow this up.

I would be grateful if you could contact me on louise.macdonald@belfasttrust.hscni.net so we can discuss further.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your feedback.

Regards

Louise
