"Practice Experience"

About: Wickham Park Surgery

(as a service user),

I’ve not had problems with any of the doctors I’ve seen at this practice, but the experience booking an appointment either online or with staff has been woefully poor and unhelpful!

I have not felt well for almost 6 months now and every time I’ve tried to book an appointment, there is nothing available online except smear tests! And when I phone through, I am always told there is nothing available and I either have to wait 2 or more weeks to see a doctor, or wait until more appointments are released online.

When I did the latter, I was too late and there was still nothing available. I have symptoms that have lasted almost 6 months and have now developed something new on top, which I am getting increasingly worried about. At what point are your symptoms considered serious enough that you can actually see a doctor sooner?

I understand that the NHS is under strain, and given the winter months there may be more people needing a doctor, but I do not think it is necessary for the staff on reception to make you feel you’re a nuisance and that you have to fight really hard to see a doctor! They come across as very uncaring and do not seem to think that having symptoms for six months is something serious to worry about!
