As a new mom in a foreign country, everything can feel overwhelming. You find yourself worrying about what will happen next, how you’re going to cope with looking after your baby, and what you should or shouldn’t be doing—especially when things are done differently from back home. You’re used to certain ways of caring for a newborn, but in a new environment with different practices and advice, it’s easy to feel lost.
That’s why I’m so incredibly grateful for our health visitor, AMBER, who has been with us from the very start of our daughter’s life. She has made this journey so much easier. Her knowledge, kindness, and calm, well-spoken manner gave me reassurance and confidence when I needed it the most. She’s always been gentle with our little one and took the time to answer every question I had, no matter how small it might have seemed. Her guidance on what to do next and how to navigate each stage has been invaluable.
I was also having difficulty with breastfeeding in the early days, which was stressful and emotional. She supported me so kindly through this, providing both practical help and emotional encouragement. She guided me towards different channels of support, including breastfeeding helplines, community services, and support available at the hospital. Thanks to her, I felt well taken care of and knew where to turn for help whenever I needed it.
For anyone who’s a new parent—especially in a country that’s new to them—having a supportive, understanding, and knowledgeable health visitor can make all the difference. I’m so thankful for the care we’ve received; it’s made our experience of parenthood feel less daunting and much more joyful.
