"Left me feeling uneasy"

About: Dundee Dental Hospital / Oral Surgery

(as a service user),

Was referred from dentist for surgical removal on teeth, and was welcomed by a pleasant student who went over and above to help me feel at ease, as dental treatment makes me quite anxious.

Everything changed when the dental surgeon came in to check their work. Now, while I understand that the students are learning and will sometimes get this wrong, I felt very uncomfortable with how the dental surgeon spoke with the students. It was sharp and uncaring, and left me feeling uneasy.

There was an incident later where the student spoke with me and the surgeon came through and shouted that they should be talking to me about options and that it comes later.

Now, I understand that the surgeon was concerned that wrong information may be handed out, but the tone and volume did not feel appropriate in front of a patient.

Thank you so much for posting this valuable feedback around our Oral Surgery Service and I can only apologise on behalf of the service that this appointment left you feeling uneasy that would never be our intention in terms of provision of patient care.

In order for me to investigate this matter I would be grateful if you could contact me on either wendy.roud@nhs.scot or by telephone 01382740984 so that I can get some details regarding your appointment so that I can address these matters with the supervising clinician and also check in on the students welfare.
