"Kept saying that they were too busy"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / West of Scotland Major Trauma Ward (ward 1c)

(as a relative),

My partner was on the ward, and I was asking for some time for a staff member to take my partner and myself out for some fresh air. However, all they would say is that there was no staff available, or that staff were busy with a changeover. Despite this, no staff member were to be seen anywhere around— all sitting in the staff room, looked to be on their phones and chatting.

I was left waiting just to take my boyfriend out for some fresh air. All they kept saying was that they were too busy.

I am sick to death of the way some of the staff treat people here.

Dear corvusnz64

I am very sorry to read that you are unhappy with some elements of your partners care within Ward 1c.

Unfortunately it would not be my expectation that staff members would take you and your partner for fresh air and leave the department that they work in.

I am happy to discuss this further with you with the hope that we can resolve some of the issues mentioned and can be contacted on debbie.macintyre@nhs.scot if you wish to do so.

Kind regards

Debbie Macintyre

Clinical Service Manager

Dear corvusnz64

I am sorry that the staff in the Major Trauma Unit have not had time to assist you and your boyfriend to get outdoors. The ward is full and busy and nursing staff need to remain in the ward to prioritise patient care.

I appreciate that it can be frustrating to be in hospital for a prolonged period of time.

If you wish us to investigate further, please contact the complaints department on ggc.complaints@nhs.scot to provide your personal details.

Kind regards

Morag Busby, Lead Nurse Trauma and Orthopaedics
