"Delays in diagnosis"

About: South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre St Helier Hospital / Rheumatology St Helier Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I managed to get an MRI a year after it was recommended by my osteopath,

I was seen at Ashtead hospital with many different consultants after they were all leaving. I was sent away with pain medication after being told nothing was wrong with my spine.

Problems were persisting and so I asked for another referral and second opinion. This consultant finally gave a diagnosis of pars defect of lower spine, the radiologist had missed this in the report.

I was offered some steroid injections which had provided me with major pain relief so I could finally walk again.

A around 8 months later I was not able to walk again because of severe hip pain. After being passed around to many different doctors and MRIs I still have no diagnosis after 9 years !

I was discharged with no explaination and now have had to pay privately to try and get help. I was a very fit lady with a full life and now having to use a walking stick and have adaptations to my home. I was told at the start not to worry and that they would sort it out for me.
