I brought my baby into a&e late on a monday night with boils under his arm. We were sent to the children’s ward for a second opinion. We were greeted by a doctor to check him over who then brought in another staff member who I felt was very judgmental and rude towards me and my not even 2 week old baby. They asked me the awkward questions to rule out all possibilities of what may cause this outbreak which i completely understand but their attitude and tone towards me was terrible.
They decided to take blood tests and try to pop one of the boils to get a swab of the fluid for testing. When they left the room I felt very emotional and upset that I would be seeing my baby going through this and I shed a few tears. Once they came back in, I calmed myself down but was then told by the staff member that they appreciate it if I didn’t get worked up as they have to concentrate here, which I found absolutely disgusting! Not only am I a young and new post partum mother but my baby was about to go through something very painful. When dealing with my baby, They kept addressing him as ‘mate‘ which I found very uncomfortable.
Apart from this awful encounter with this staff member, the rest of the team of nurses and doctors throughout our 5 day stay were amazing! I find it’s disappointing that one member of staff can have such a bad attitude towards a child and their family.
