"My experience was first class"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Day Surgery Queen Margaret Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

I recently attended the Urology Day Surgery Centre at QMH.  On the days leading up to my procedure (Optical urethrotomy and diagnostic cystoscopy under general anaesthetic) I was quite anxious of what may be found.  (I previously had 5.5 weeks of chemoradiotherapy for anal cancer, and 6 sessions 8 weeks apart of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) to treat 11 areas of malignant cells (carcinomas) found on my oesophagus).

I couldn't have asked for a more supportive and attentive team of Nurses, Consultants and Anaestetists who immediately put my anxiety, fest and vulnerability at ease.

Having returned home (later that same day) catheterised for 5 days. I have had no adverse reaction to my GA, nor have I any UT infections.  I am disappointed that my appt to remove the catheter will be at the Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy (VHK), as my experience at QMH was first class.

Dear DK62,

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback about your recent experience in Urology Day Surgery Centre at QMH.

It is understandable to be anxious about the procedure and results, especially since you have been through so much already. I am delighted to learn that you were made to feel at ease, supported and comfortable throughout the procedure and after care in the department.

The staff within the unit will be proud to learn that you felt your care was first class. The team work very hard to ensure patient care is individualised whilst showing care and attention at the same time.

I am sorry that you felt disappointed you were needing to attend the Victoria Hospital for you the catheter removal. If you would like to talk about this further please could you email me your contact details or ring the department so we can have a chat regarding this.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Beth

Dear DK62,

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to leave such positive feedback following attending the Day Surgery Unit QMH for your procedure.

We understand that coming into the hospital for a procedure can be very nerve wracking and we are so pleased to hear that that your anxiety was eased and that you were made to feel supported and felt that the nursing staff were attentive.

We hope that you are recovering well at home and wish you all the best.

Kind regards,

All the team at the Day Surgery Unit.
