"The birth of my son."

About: Maternity care / Maternity & Paediatric Theatres

(as the patient),

Boxing Day a couple years back my son was born. It was a very traumatic birth as my placenta erupted at home and I was rushed to Ninewells hospital in Dundee.  I don’t remember much but I do remember a midwife. I think her name was Rebecca Swanston. As I was bleeding heavily and the nurses seemed to be running around, she came over and checked me and called for me to get an emergency c-section.  They said that they just got my son out just in time.

She was amazing and really looked after me the following days until I came home with my baby. My son is really healthy and happy. I’ve always intended in sharing this story and would love for her to know how much I appreciated it all and that I still remember how fantastic she was.

Thank you so much for looking after us.

Dear Lbjfd_39,

My name is Lee-Anne Abel and I am one of the Senior Midwives working in NHS Tayside Maternity Services.

Thank you for taking time to share such wonderful feedback noting that your experience at the time of birth must have been a frightening experience given the emergency nature of your birth.

I am delighted to hear that the care you received was positive and our team responded quickly to this situation. It is wonderful to hear how Rebecca has had such a positive influence on your care episode and how this has remained with you for years after.

It is heart warming to hear your son is thriving and doing well both medically and emotionally and I will take great pride in sharing your appreciation with Rebecca.

Feedback like this is wonderful for morale within our maternity teams and for you to take time to share this is very kind. Thank you.

I hope you and your sun are enjoying the Spring Sunshine and making memories together as a family.

Best Wishes,

Lee-Anne Abel

Senior Midwife
